Bios of the people behind Channel G are at CHANNEL G Team
Why MVC likes Channel G:
- It's has a very well thought out business plan that looks very sustainable.
- It turns consumer culture on its ear by appropriating the "home shopping" format and re-purposing it for generosity, not consumerism.
- It is great programming, showcasing positive, uplifting, inspiring, encouraging, optimistic efforts worldwide that deserve attention.
- Besides raising money for good causes, it "brainwashes" viewers to think positively.
- Like MTV, it gets the bulk of its programming for little or no cost, because the projects it highlights are competing to provide the most compelling mini-documentary.
CHANNEL G is a truly new and innovative reality television show which
invites American TV viewers to directly participate in the success of
social, environmental, and health related projects. CHANNEL G presents all
kinds of non-profit projects from all over the world on the show. And
viewers at home make the projects happen. It's simple, easy and fun. CHANNEL
G is literally the fast track to a brighter future.
With CHANNEL G, the American television viewing public is educated and
informed in an upbeat way while being given the opportunity to participate
in the success of the environmental, social, and health-related projects of
their choice. Each show, designed for satellite and cable, is one hour long
and contains studio segments as well as in-the-field segments where CHANNEL
G hosts present projects which may occur anywhere in the world.
CHANNEL G is a place where viewers can work together to cumulatively fund
projects they believe are valuable. Each show begins in the studio, where
familiar hosts tell the viewer about CHANNEL G, as well as giving updates
and information about projects in process, fully funded projects, and
projects soon to be presented. CHANNEL G then presents Project
Presentations, which always address Five Questions:
- 1. Whats the problem?
- 2. How does the project plan to remedy the problem?
- 3. Who is involved in the project?
- 4. How long will this project take to complete its goal?
- 5. How much will the project cost?
When the CHANNEL G correspondent visits a project, he or she always seeks to
answer these Five Questions for the viewer. It is up to the viewer to decide
whether the project he or she is watching seems interesting and worthwhile.
This process is, in essence, the worldıs most direct grant application, with
the projects representing the grant-seekers, and the viewers at home
representing the grant-makers. A major component of CHANNEL Gıs
presentations is the invitation to the public to participate through
financial contribution. Most Americans want to participate in making the
world a better place, but do not have an easy avenue of access where they
can learn about projects and readily participate in making them a success.
CHANNEL G is the link; the nexus point where people, projects and resources
come together.
Picking up the phone and funding the project is not the end of the CHANNEL G
viewerıs experience. Follow-up reports help the viewer gauge the projectıs
long-term performance with information that would traditionally be totally
unavailable to smaller funders, eliciting continued interest and providing
accountability. Also, the CHANNEL G web site provides information on how the
viewer can get more directly involved through volunteer work, duplicating
successful projects in his or her area, or interacting with other CHANNEL G
fans.
