It’s possible that your new Smart SIM is already 5G compatible when you purchase it. Using the 5G network doesn’t mean it can’t use 4G, LTE, or 3G services. A few places in the Philippines have already launched 5G services, including the MCBD or the Makati Central Business District, the BGC or Bonifacio Global City, the MOA or SM Mall of Asia, New Clark City, as well as select areas in Cebu City, Davao City, and Boracay. Prior to now, 5G was only available to postpaid customers, but it is now available to Smart prepaid customers with 5G-capable phones.
If the 5G is not yet available in your area, it’s better to acquire a 5G-ready SIM in preparation for the future. However, if you want to access the 5G network, you will have to upgrade to a smartphone that supports 5G. Keeping your old mobile number is possible even if the SIM you have is an old one that still utilizes 3G. You can actually upgrade it to a 4G/LTE and 5G SIM while keeping your old mobile number. You can upgrade your Smart SIM at any Smart store by purchasing an upgrade SIM and following these steps.
In most cases, new SIM cards activate immediately after they are inserted, with the network automatically detecting them. When it doesn’t happen, you can go through several steps to manually activate your new Smart SIM. Once you activate your Smart SIM, you’ll get 300MB of free mobile Internet data and 700MB of additional data upon loading ₱30 within 3 days from activation.

Turn on your mobile data
To turn on mobile data on your Smart SIM, you need to turn it on. Put your new Smart SIM in your phone’s SIM slot and turn on mobile data. Visit the Smart website with your mobile phone’s browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) after turning on mobile data (type smart.com.ph in the URL bar).
Smart may not even require you to visit its website if you have connected to its mobile data network. It will then give you a welcome text message.
Your Smart SIM is now activated once you receive the welcome text message. Now that you’ve got 300MB of free data available, you can make calls, text, and browse the Internet. Load at least P30 within 3 days to receive an additional 700MB.
The SIM card has been activated
You can log in to My Smart to manage your Smart prepaid or postpaid account, inquire about your balance and usage in real time, pay your bills, and more. The document is also available for download the GigaLife app for Android and iOS to access your Smart account more conveniently and easily from your mobile device.

An SMS or a message will be sent to you with information about your load balance and remaining data. You will then receive a validation or confirmation email shortly afterward.
Press *143# to get started
You can check your balance by dialing *143# if you cannot access SMS messages. You can subscribe to prepaid load promos using this Smart USSD code, and check your account balance by using it.
Then go to Balance/Services > Check Balance to activate the SIM. Smart message will welcome you to the network and show you your balance in real time.
To reach 1515, dial 1515
If you wish to inquire about your load balance and activate your Smart SIM at the same time, you may call 1515. In the next step, you will receive a text message with information about your balance. If you receive a text message welcoming you to the Smart network, then your SIM has been activated.
